Stelvio er med\u00a02\u00a0757\u00a0<abbr title=\"metri sul livello del mare (h\u00f8gd over havet)\"><a title=\"H\u00f8gd over havet\" href=\"http:\/\/nn.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/H%C3%B8gd_over_havet\">m<\/a>oh\u00a0<\/abbr>den h\u00f8yeste fjellovergangen i Italia og den nest h\u00f8yeste asfalterte veiovergangen i Alpene \u2013 etter Col de<a title=\"Col de l'Iseran\" href=\"http:\/\/nn.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Col_de_l%27Iseran\">\u00a0<\/a>l`Iseran(2 770 moh). Stelvio knytter sammen Bormio i Veltlin, Lombardia\u00a0med Prad\u00a0i Vinschgau, S\u00f8r-Tirol. Den ene veien opp g\u00e5r alts\u00e5 fra Bormio p\u00e5 s\u00f8rsiden. Bormio er et sentralt sted for sykkelturister, p\u00e5 grunn av sin beliggenhet ved foten av flere legender. <a href=\"http:\/\/bhxblogg.no\/?page_id=1686\" target=\"_blank\">Passo Gavia<\/a> kan ogs\u00e5 bestiges fra Bormio. Og veien opp <a href=\"http:\/\/bhxblogg.no\/?page_id=1755\" target=\"_blank\">Passo del Mortirolo<\/a> er rett i n\u00e6rheten. I Giro d`Italia brukes ofte noen av disse fjellpassene p\u00e5 samme etappe og utgj\u00f8r dermed en av Giroens monsteretappe. I Giro d`Italia 2014 p\u00e5 den 16.etappen var rytterne f\u00f8rst over Gavia og ned i Bormio og s\u00e5 over Stelvio f\u00f8r Val Martello til slutt. Da var det denne veien de brukte opp til Stelvio, alts\u00e5 fra Bormio. Den er b\u00e5de litt lenger og litt brattere enn fra s\u00f8rsiden og Bormio. Det er 48 serpentinsvinger p\u00e5 veien opp, som alle er markert med egne skilt slik at du kan telle deg nedover etterhvert som du n\u00e6rmer deg toppen. Serpentinene blir s\u00e6rdeles merkbare desto n\u00e6rmere toppen du kommer.
